This week Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth abruptly cancelled two US military deployments to Europe and ordered the removal of other personnel from the continent, according to two defense officials, in a series of moves meant to reduce the number of US troops following criticism by President Donald Trump about support from European allies.

The decision could split NATO further.

The Army announced in March that the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade would deploy this spring as part of a routine mission to CENTCOM's area of responsibility, which spans across 21 nations, including Iran and throughout the Middle East, Northeast Africa and Central and South Asia.
